I bought this book because I loved Jeff Smith's "Bone" comics. They were wonderful, and plenty of praise has been heaped upon them and Mr. Smith (and rightly so.)"RASL" is a vastly different story in just about every respect. The tone is dark and dreary. It's the story of a man who has been driven to desperation and criminal acts in an attempt to escape a mistake he has made. Unfortunately, unlike Bone, I did not find myself lost in the world of "RASL". The story starts out intriguing, but ultimately it fizzles out. The ending feels rushed, and I feel like I will forget it entirely in a matter of months. I hope Mr. Smith's next project will be more up to the standards of his amazing "Bone" story.
It also bears mentioning, this is not a book for children, unlike "Bone". There is a lot of violence and mature themes, not to mention sex and foul language. I would not recommend this for anybody under 14.

Recommended by Frank Miller on his AMA, I decided to check this out. Basically a love letter to Tesla, everything about this story is absolutely enthralling. Fantastic read!
p.s. this is a total departure from Bone...
Great book. If you are a Jeff Smith fan do yourself a favor and pick this up. It is a different tone than bone, but the art is great and it's a well written story.
Fantastic book. Big fan of Jeff Smith. If you like alternate realities and Tesla this book is for you. The always beautiful art of Jeff Smith.
Brilliant story & illustrations
Jeff Smith first comic book Bone was a silly classic Lord of Rings like Adventure. RASL is a hard boiled noir tale.
I picked up the individual black and white comics while the series was being published.
However, the complete collection is in color which adds a nice "POP" to the story, you really get that sense of the Arizona Desert.
The binding is very nice and so is the dust jacket. Looks like a real nice fun book. Many guest thumb through it on my coffee table.
Jeff Smith as only Jeff Smith can provide! Bone was delicious but she's over. RASL establishes that Jeff isn't just a one trick pony. He really should start promoting screenplays to hollywood or work a deal with Disney to produce Bone as a series on Netflux or . Immerse yourself in this new universe with its very particular set of temporal rules and noir sensibilities. Don't deprive yourself of a cartoon set in the theatre of your mind and expand your expectations of reality. Knock, knock. Who is it? The world just next door and round a twisted bend.
Unlike Bone, RASL is clearly intended for a more mature audience with drug use, graphic violence, and nudity scattered through out its pages. The book centers around an art thief who is able to jump between dimensions stealing iconic art pieces. As the story progresses a more elaborate theme and plot emerge taking the reader back the the pages of both the main character and the historical Tesla's history. The book is well paced and I didn't see the book's big twist until it happened. The book is well thought out and characters are well developed in Jeff Smith's amazing style. The colors are more realistic and the pages have a matte finish that further enhances the feeling of maturity that is clear throughout the book. The volume itself is high quality being both large and well bound. I honestly wish that they would redo the Bone Omnibus in a bigger book like this one. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Smith's work and is over the age of 18.
