One of American's greatest writers Eudora Welty captured a world long gone. In her book On Writing she attempts to share the insight to her life's profession. Writers write and all others makes excuses, Welty was creative and wrote about what she knows.
What makes this book amazing; you get a sense that Welty is right there next to you, encouraging you to put your words on paper. Coming up with a good story, taking the leap into fiction and how do you do it? That's it, you simply do it.
Maybe when this book came out it offered useful information, but I found little that I could use. I'm not a writing scholar, but I've read a few books on the subject and by the time I read this one I found nothing new of use.
Every reader of Eudora Welty`s marvelous stories should read this book. All the secrets of her craft and her unique style are here,
Outstanding as everything Welty wrote is. Easy to follow and excellent information for writers. Never goes out of date. Give as gifts.
Ms. Welty breaks it all down for the novices.
This is advice, with examples, given by one of the greatest writers I know. I doubt if I'm capable of following it, but I love reading it an I enjoy her examples.
She's the wisest authority, along with Ursula LeGuin, on writing I know of. Great book.
